Carlo Ancelotti is no longer manager of Chelsea, the club announced after the final day of the Premier League has been losing 1-0 to Everton.

A statement on the club's website revealed that he had parted company from the Italian, who guided Chelsea to the Premier League and FA Cup double last season.

His position has been the subject of much speculation after Chelsea's poor form at the end of the year, which led to his exit from the FA Cup and Champions League. Despite a return to the claims of the league title, and signatures of January Luiz Fernando Torres and David, a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United condemned them to second place.

The following statement: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Carlo Ancelotti parted with the club today (Sunday, May 22).

"The owner and the Board of Directors wishes to thank Carlos for his contribution and achievements since taking over as manager in July 2009, which included a double win for the first time in club history.

"However, the performance of the season fell below expectations and the club feels that now is the time to make this change to come from the preparation for next season. Carlo will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge, where he delivered the reception and respect his position in our history deserves.

"Chelsea Football Goals Long-term and ambitions remain unchanged and now we will concentrate our efforts on identifying a new manager. There will be no further comment until that appointment is made."
