AC Milan stay top of Serie A
Rossonerri AC Milan returned to the top of Serie A with a 1-0 victory over city rivals Inter Milan in the 275th Derby della Madonnina at the San Siro.
A penalty from Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the fifth minute was enough to decide a game which AC Milan ended with 10 men after Ignazio Abate was sent off on the hour mark.
The result takes AC Milan back to the top of the table above Lazio and leaves Inter six points adrift in fifth.
The eagerly-anticipated derby started with a bang as Milan were awarded a penalty after just four minutes. Marco Materazzi caught Ibrahimovic as he pulled the ball back just inside the area and there were no complaints from the Nerazzurri defender when the spot-kick was awarded. Ibrahimovic stepped up to blast the penalty past Luca Castellazzi, who was again deputising for the injured Julio Cesar in the Inter goal.
Earlier on Sunday, Lazio had provisionally moved top thanks to a 2-0 win over Napoli.
Mauro Zarate put the home side ahead in the 15th minute and Sergio Floccari sealed the win after an hour as Edy Reja's side climbed back above AC Milan and ended a run of two straight defeats to return to the summit. Napoli hit the woodwork once and missed several other chances, but Lazio held on to all three points.
A hat-trick by Javier Pastore saw Palermo win the Sicilian derby with Catania and move into seventh place in Serie A. The 3-1 victory moved Palermo three points clear of their local rivals, who are still searching for their first away win of the season.
Pastore headed the hosts into the lead in the 34th minute before Christian Terlizzi levelled just after half-time. Delio Rossa's side immediately regained the lead through a fierce shot by Pastore, who then confirmed victory five minutes from time with a left-footed shot.
Bologna climbed out of the relegation zone with Marco Di Vaio's second-half goal dropping Brescia into the bottom three following a 1-0 win. Di Vaio struck in the 58th minute to hand his team all three points and ensure Bologna kept their unbeaten run at the Renato Dall' Ara stadium this season alive.
Bari's plight at the foot of Serie A worsened as they missed a penalty and were made to pay as Antonio Candreva's goal won all three points for Parma in a 1-0 defeat.
Sampdoria were unable to break down a resolute Chievo defence as their poor run in Serie A continued with a 0-0 draw.
Antonio Di Natale scored a first-half hat-trick to fire Udinese to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Lecce .
Di Natale opened the scoring in the 11th minute before adding his second before the half-hour mark. The Italy international made it 3-0 five minutes before the break and Antonio Floro Flores capped off a wonderful afternoon for the hosts in the 55th minute.
Davide Ballardini extended his perfect record as coach of Genoa to two games thanks to a fortunate 1-0 win at Cagliari. Andrea Ranocchia scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute after Genoa had defended for almost the entire game as the home side pushed for a win.
