Almunia must be replaced

Former Arsenal manager and Legend George Graham says the Arsenal will not be able to challenge for the Premier League title while Manuel Almunia remains their first-choice goalkeeper.

Manuel Almunia is under scrutiny once again after his error allowed Gonzalo Jara to score West Brom's second goal in a shock 3-2 win for the promoted side at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners Arsenal attempted to buy Mark Schwarzer from Fulham over the summer, only to see the transfer window shut without a new goalkeeper arriving, and both Arsene Wenger and Cesc Fabregas have subsequently stated their faith in Almunia.

However, Graham, who had the luxury of calling on David Seaman during his time at Highbury, is adamant that Almunia must be replaced if Arsenal are to challenge at the top of the table.

"I think if you're going to really be realistic challengers for the Premiership you need a top, top class goalkeeper,'' Graham told Five Live.

"I think Manuel Almunia is a good goalkeeper, but there's about half a dozen good goalkeepers in the Premier League. I think Arsenal need an outstanding goalkeeper. I think they should be looking all round the world, not just in England or Europe."
